Joseph Mellor
Home » Joseph Mellor
Joseph Mellor was born into a Barnsley linen weaving family, working as a linen weaver then a Jacquard card stamper. Conditions in the linen industry were harsh and wages low with regular periods when no work was available. By the mid 1850s, Joseph had become a landscape painter and was able to do this for the rest of his life. He had no formal training but created landscapes in oils of scenes in the north of England.
